Towards a Syntax-Semantics Interface for Topological Dependency Grammar

چکیده
We present the first step towards a constraint-based syntax-semantics interface for Topological Dependency Grammar (TDG) (Duchier and Debusmann, 2001). We extend TDG with a new level of representation called semantic dependency dag to capture the deep semantic dependencies and clearly separate this level from the syntactic dependency tree. We stipulate an emancipation mechanism between these levels that relates semantic arguments to their syntactic realizations, and demonstrate its application with an account of raising and control constructions.

A Relational Syntax-Semantics Interface Based on Dependency Grammar
We propose a syntax-semantics interface that realises the mapping between syntax and semantics as a relation and does not make functionality assumptions in either direction. This interface is stated in terms of Extensible Dependency Grammar (XDG), a grammar formalism we newly specify. XDG’s constraint-based parser supports the concurrent flow of information between any two levels of linguistic ...

Valency is the key concept in dependency grammar. Among all word categories, verbs are the most important categories with a key role in syntax and semantics. Verb is the central role in a sentence and acts as the main semantic component in the dependency grammar. In this paper, after studying several methods for unsupervised discovery of Persian verb valency, the ambiguities are studied. Among ...
متن کاملTopological Dependency Trees: A Constraint-Based Account of Linear Precedence
We describe a new framework for dependency grammar, with a modular decomposition of immediate dependency and linear precedence. Our approach distinguishes two orthogonal yet mutually constraining structures: a syntactic dependency tree and a topological dependency tree. The syntax tree is nonprojective and even non-ordered, while the topological tree is projective and partially ordered.
متن کاملVerb Cluster, Non-Projectivity, and Syntax-Topology Interface in Korean
This article proposes a simple modeling of Korean word order within the framework of the topological dependency grammar – the first topological modeling for this language – a system of formal rules accounting for the correspondence between the dependency tree of a sentence and an ordered constituent structure. We show that a fairly small number of linearization rules can account for the word or...
متن کاملEncoding a syntactic dictionary into a super granular unification grammar
We show how to turn a large-scale syntactic dictionary into a dependency-based unification grammar where each piece of lexical information calls a separate rule, yielding a super granular grammar. Subcategorization, raising and control verbs, auxiliaries and copula, passivization, and tough-movement are discussed. We focus on the semantics-syntax interface and offer a new perspective on syntact...
